Sad news.  I just found out that Tina the elephant died.  It made me cry.  N took me out to see her last year before they moved her to Tennessee, and I don't know why this makes me so sad, but it does.  She was only 34.  Here's what is written on the elephants.com site.

I just threw 10 perfectly good rolls of bathroom tissue (that's what it says on the bag, but it's toilet paper) into the hallway of my building.  Still in the package they came in, and wrapped securely again in a white plastic garbage bag.  Because it had a SPIDER in it.  (I used caps because it was HUGE!)  EWWWW!!!  Now, I know throwing the entire thing out in to the hallway might seem a little  drastic, but it wasn't my first choice.  No.  When I opened the bathroom cupboard, and saw that Massive Spider just sitting in the bag of tp, looking at me, my first thought was the PMoP, the Paper Mitt of Protection.  However, it didn't take me long to figure out that even with my hand (and arm) entirely cased in paper towel, I was still going to have to put my hand through that small opening in the bag, into an enclosed space with that MONSTER.  And more than likely, it was going to run up my arm.  Not.  Going.  To.  Happen.
So.  Then I decided to pull out my old trusty bug sucker upper.  One might think that would be the cat, but she retired about 6 years ago and was actually witnessing my panic from just inside the laundry basket.  And I think she was laughing.  But I hauled out the vacuum cleaner (careful not to make too much noise so as not to alert the enemy to its impending doom, plugged it in and attached the hose, and flippedtheswitchandshovedthehoseinthegeneraldirectionofthebag only to discover that IT HAD STARTED SUCKING THE OUTSIDE OF THE BAG INSTEAD OF THE INSIDE!!!  Now, I can't even see where the f***ing spider is, all I know is that it is still in that bag.  I know this because my stupid stunt with the vacuum sealed the bag shut while it sucked from the outside.  So.  I grabbed a white garbage bag, grabbed the top of the tp bag, and introduced them.  And since I can never find a twist tie in this place, I used an Ikea clip, sealed it up, and threw it out my door into the building's hallway.  I know.  Some neighbour I am, right?  Well the people downstairs are mostly too busy throwing each other around these days to notice, so whatever.  Trust me, it won't be there long.  Part of me thinks that crafty sucker will figure a way out of the bag, so as soon as I've finished this I'll be taking it to the dumpster on my way to Safeway to buy more bathroom tissue.

Seriously.  Spiders are Gross.

On an entirely different note, it's Indy this weekend so it sounds like we're being invaded by bees.

Well, I'm back.  It was a long trip, but wonderful.  I loved every day of it.  The only low point was that N wasn't with me.  He was great about the whole thing though, and I know he had a good time while he was there.

I spent so much time with my nephew that I'm sure he won't forget me this time.  It helps that it won't be too long before I see him again, but I still think I made an impression.  I'm really going to miss him though.  He's growing so fast, and I miss so much of it.  And my brand new niece, she was only 2.5 days old when I left.  My sister was great though, and she let me hold her as much as I could.  I hope it was enough so that she'll have some sense of me.  Maybe it's dumb, but I feel pretty isolated out here these days.  Everyone else is together, and there for the good stuff.  I always feel like I have to be 'super fun' so that they'll remember me when I'm not there.  Ah.  Enough of that.

So, they named her.  Annabel Jayne.  I went shopping for her baby shower today and got 2 adorable outfits!!  I just need to get a card and then send them.

I don't think I mentioned yet that they had a surprise shower for me while I was back.  It was great!  N was in on it, and I had NO idea!  He drove me to Invermere the day that they set everything up.  I even got to have one of those hats made out of all the bows and ribbons from the gifts.  It was so nice.  My sisters put it all together, and it was really nice to see people that I hadn't seen in ages.  I have to say though, that it does feel very weird getting gifts when it's not my birthday or Christmas.  I just felt like I hadn't done anything to deserve it.  But I did get beautiful things.  Spoiled.

What else?  Hmm.  I went to Idaho for an afternoon with my dad.  We went to find this solar power house, they sell solar power stuff and run the whole place off the grid (whatever that means).  It was a very funny drive, and we're lucky that we weren't shot by white supremacists for trespassing when we got some seriously misguided directions.  (They tell me there is lots of them in Idaho.)  We went to the accordion festival in Kimberley, there are pictures on N's site.  Chase decided he wanted to dance among all the other (old) polka dancers, and enlisted his Ba (grandpa) to dance with him.  Soooo funny, but maybe only for me and my sister.

Kay.  I'm rambling.  Must stop typing until I have something to say.

IT'S A GIRL!!!!

She was born tonight at 8:00pm Cranbrook time, 8lbs, 12oz.  And she's perfect!  Mom and Dad are doing great too, and when we left the hospital the whole new family was looking forward to a good sleep.  More tomorrow...
Still no baby, but things are looking good!

Every time I write about my sister's pregnancy, I forget to mention that they have decided to go with a midwife. Apparently, the midwife is covered by BC medical, so it is an alternative option to the obstetrician. I guess they picked this way because it's a more personal service. As I write, the midwife is at their house, waiting until she's ready to go to the hospital. She's 5 cms dilated, and still at home! I have one very brave sister! So I guess when they go to the hospital, it will be the midwife, my sister, and her partner, B, all in the delivery room. And B gets to do the actual delivery himself! He's had lessons the last couple of weeks on how to turn the head, and get the shoulders out, etc. So he'll be delivering their baby! My mom gets to be there too now, as they need someone to take the pictures. B was originally going to do it, but he'll be a little too busy now. My mom thinks that's so fantastic that he gets to do the actual delivery, but N thinks that he might throw up if he had to do it. I think that my sister and B are a little bit earthier than N and I. Just a tad. So I told N not to worry, I think I'll be fine with a doctor doing the delivery. And probably lots of drugs!

Anyway, that's it for the update. Next post should have a baby announcement!!!

Still no baby. Rats! My sister is swollen, and her back is killing her, and she keeps gaining weight. If she doesn't have this baby soon she's going to outweigh N! I took her counter off the blog though, as it's now misleading. And I added a wedding counter. The wonderful girl who created the lilypie baby day counter emailed me last night to let me know about the wedding counter. And now you have it! 2 months and 2 days! Yikes! I really need to get home. And get a job. And figure out a caterer!

Found this at Christine's and couldn't resist. I am not a rock star.

20 Questions to a Better Personality

Wackiness: 52/100
Rationality: 50/100
Constructiveness: 86/100
Leadership: 62/100

You are an SECL--Sober Emotional Constructive Leader. This makes you a politician. You cut deals, you change minds, you make things happen. You would prefer to be liked than respected, but generally people react to you with both. You are very sensitive to criticism, since your entire business is making people happy.

At times your commitment to the happiness of other people can cut into the happiness of you and your loved ones. This is very demanding on those close to you, who may feel neglected. Slowly, you will learn to set your own agenda--including time to yourself.

You are gregarious, friendly, charming and charismatic. You like animals, sports, and beautiful cars. You wear understated gold jewelry and have secret bad habits, like chewing your fingers and fidgeting.

You are very difficult to dislike.
